A computer with an Internet connection is a must because most work-at-home businesses are Internet-based. What kind of computer you will buy depends on what you will use it for. For example, if you are planning to work as a Web content writer, you need a business-capable 512 MB Ram with a 2GHz processor. On the other hand, if you are running a computer graphics service, you need a powerful computer with a high-storage capacity.  

A second phone line is a must. A home office phone impresses upon your client that you are a professional. In addition, by using a second line, your clients or employers can get through to you quickly and easily rather than wait for the line to be free due to personal calls. An answering machine hooked to your phone is also very important so you can receive business messages while you are out. 

It would also be a good idea to have a fax machine. Many businesses are advocates of black-and-white deals and are still sceptical about doing business in the digital world. Having a fax machine lets you transmit and receive documents that are needed for your work or business.  

The nature of your job dictates the need for other gadgets. However, the ones mentioned earlier are the most essential.
